Who can take part
- You have biopsy-proven esophageal cancer (adenocarcinoma or squamous cell) in the chest esophagus or where the esophagus meets the stomach (stage I–IVA, but not T4b).
- You do not have clear signs of cancer spread to distant organs (no metastatic disease on scans).
- You must have had a recent scan (FDG-PET/CT preferred, or contrast CT), and it must be done within the required time window around study start—especially if you had induction chemotherapy.
- You are 18 or older and able to do daily activities at a moderate level (performance status score 0–2).
- Your blood counts and organ lab tests must meet thresholds (enough white cells, platelets, and hemoglobin; kidney, liver, and bilirubin levels within limits).
- A study doctor must confirm you can get either type of radiation without overlapping past radiation fields, and you must be able to pay/receive coverage for the treatment options.
