Tested lymph node surgery approach for papillary thyroid cancer
Part of Cancer clinical trials.
This study compares a specific lymph node surgery plan for people with papillary thyroid cancer on the right side or both sides. It aims to improve outcomes by addressing lymph nodes near the nerve that controls the voice, especially when spread to that area is unlikely.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- Be between 18 and 80 years old
- Have papillary thyroid cancer mainly on the right side or both sides
- Be having your first thyroid/neck operation for this cancer
- No signs of cancer spread to distant organs (distant metastasis)
- No history of serious neck injury or trauma
- The trial doctor must think your lymph node area near the voice nerve is unlikely to be involved (for the main/phase II group)

This trial studies a type of surgery for papillary thyroid cancer when it appears to be only inside the thyroid and lymph nodes in the central neck look normal. It aims to see whether treating the “central neck” in this way improves outcomes for patients without signs of spread.
This study tests a more focused surgery approach to remove lymph nodes in the armpit for people with early breast cancer that has been found in 1–2 axillary lymph nodes. It may help guide more precise treatment while checking how well this approach works.
This trial compares two types of neck surgery for people with papillary thyroid cancer that has spread to a small number of lymph nodes in the neck. The goal is to see if a less extensive lymph node removal works just as well as the standard more extensive surgery.
This trial tests whether removing central neck lymph nodes during thyroid surgery improves outcomes for patients with 2 to 4 cm papillary thyroid cancer. It focuses on people who have no signs of cancer spread before surgery.
This trial tests a surgical procedure to remove cancer-affected lymph nodes on the side of the neck in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer. It aims to improve outcomes for those with confirmed or suspected spread to these nodes.
This study looks at how papillary thyroid cancer spreads to lymph nodes. It uses data from your surgery and ultrasound to better understand why some small tumors spread and others don't.
