Comparing two neck surgeries for thyroid cancer spread

This trial compares two types of neck surgery for people with papillary thyroid cancer that has spread to a small number of lymph nodes in the neck. The goal is to see if a less extensive lymph node removal works just as well as the standard more extensive surgery.

Who can take part

  • You have papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) confirmed by a biopsy.
  • You are between 14 and 80 years old.
  • Cancer has spread to lymph nodes in the side of your neck, confirmed by a fine needle aspiration.
  • The affected lymph nodes are only in a specific area (level IV), with 1 or 2 nodes that are less than 1 cm in short diameter and no signs of damage or blockage.
  • The thyroid tumor has not spread outside the thyroid gland, and you have enough thyroid tissue to inject a tracer.
  • You have not had neck surgery before and do not have distant metastases or high-risk cancer features.
