Who can take part
- You have rectal or sigmoid (near-rectum) cancer
- Surgery is not an option for you due to age, other illnesses, or multiple cancers in other organs

- Your radiation plan matches 39 Gy given in 13 sessions (3 Gy per session)
- You are not receiving chemotherapy at the same time as the radiation
- After radiation, you still are not expected to be able to have surgery
