Who can take part

  • You have sickle cell disease (SCD) or beta thalassemia and previously had a stem cell transplant from a matched donor (allogeneic HSCT).
  • After the first transplant, donor cells are still present but are gradually dropping (persistent donor chimerism).
  • You have ongoing/recurrent disease symptoms (for SCD, SCD blood marker is at or above the study threshold, or your symptoms are clearly coming back).
  • You (the patient) are at least 4 years old.
  • Your heart function tests are adequate: ejection fraction at least 35% (DLCO may be skipped for some younger children).
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you don’t have a recent uncontrolled serious infection.
