Who can take part
- You are between 2 and 24 years old and have sickle cell disease.
- You have a healthy sibling who is a perfect match (HLA-identical) and either has a different blood type (major ABO mismatch) or you have antibodies against some of their red blood cell traits.
- You have had at least one serious sickle cell complication like a stroke, chest crisis, or severe pain episode.
- Your blood counts (neutrophils and platelets) are at a safe level, and you are able to perform daily activities (Lansky/Karnofsky score of 70 or higher).
- Your heart, liver, kidneys, and lungs are working well enough (no severe organ damage).
