Who can take part
- You have sickle cell disease and at least one serious complication (like stroke, frequent ER pain crises, priapism, recurrent acute chest syndrome, or organ/eye/bone damage).
- You are between 16 and 60 years old.
- Your heart function is strong enough (left ventricular ejection fraction at least 40%).
- Your lung function is adequate (carbon monoxide lung test at least 50% predicted after correction).
- Your kidneys are functioning well enough (estimated GFR at least 50).
- You do not have a fully HLA-matched sibling, but you do have a related family donor who is “half-matched” (HLA haploidentical).
