Testing a shunt sensor in people with symptom-free hydrocephalus shunts

Who can take part

  • You are 40 years or older and have a VP shunt for normal pressure hydrocephalus
  • You currently have no symptoms related to your hydrocephalus (“asymptomatic”)
  • You can sign the informed consent yourself, or your legal representative can sign for you
  • You have only one shunt (no multiple shunts, and no extra distal shunt tubes on the same side crossing near the collarbone)
  • There is no open wound or swelling (edema) over any part of your VP shunt
  • The ShuntCheck test won’t interfere with your usual care, and you are not needing urgent shunt surgery that can’t wait
