Testing a skin-based nerve stimulation for kids’ arm function

This trial studies whether a painless, skin-based treatment (stimulation over the spine) is safe and feasible to improve arm and hand function in children with a spinal cord injury. It’s mainly designed to see if the approach can be done safely and whether it may help upper-limb skills.

Who can take part

  • Your spinal cord injury happened more than 1 year ago (chronic acquired injury).
  • The injury affects your neck (cervical) and/or the upper chest area (around T1).
  • You have moderate to severe difficulty using your arms/hands (your child’s arm function score is below a study cutoff).
  • You are done with hospital inpatient rehabilitation (you’re discharged).
  • You have not had Botox in the last 3 months.
  • You are not taking baclofen right now and do not have an unhealed arm fracture.
  • You do not rely on a ventilator 100% for breathing, and you don’t have other health problems that would stop testing or arm training.
