Who can take part

  • You have low back pain for at least 6 months that worsens with sitting, bending forward, lifting, twisting, coughing, sneezing, or straining
  • You tried at least 6 months of non-surgery care (like rest, anti-inflammatories/pain medicines, injections, massage/physical therapy/chiropractic) but it didn’t help enough
  • Your current pain and disability scores fit the study limits (pain on a 0–100 scale between 40 and 80, and disability score between 30 and 89)
  • Your MRI shows degenerative disc disease at the pain level, with specific scoring rules, and disc height is preserved (at least 50%)
  • No major structural problems on MRI (no severe narrowing, no disc pieces that are out of place, and no significant spine deformity or instability)
  • You can’t be pregnant/breastfeeding, and you must use highly effective birth control if you could become pregnant
