Mouth guard study to reduce airway collapse in sleep apnea

This study tests whether using an anti-snoring mouth guard (a mandibular advancement appliance) can help keep your airway open during sleep if you have obstructive sleep apnea. If you’re referred for this kind of mouth guard, the trial will see if using it more regularly or in a specific way improves symptoms or breathing during sleep.

Who can take part

  • You are 40 years or older.
  • You have confirmed obstructive sleep apnea diagnosed by a sleep study (AHI 5 or higher).
  • A clinician has referred you for an anti-snoring mouth guard (MAA) for treatment.
  • You can understand and read English (or you can do so with a translator’s help).
  • You have enough healthy teeth for the mouth guard to be made safely. (Not enough teeth may exclude you.)
  • You have good gum and tooth health, and you do not have significant jaw joint pain disorder (TMD).
  • You have not used an MAA before.
  • You do not have epilepsy.
