This study looks at how past mild traumatic brain injury may contribute to brain changes seen in chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). It may help researchers understand risk and brain markers by comparing people with mild or moderate TBI, people with mild memory problems, and healthy controls.

Who can take part

  • You can see well enough for the study tests (no major color vision or blurry vision issues).
  • You must be able to pass an effort test called the TOMM and understand what’s happening (decision-making capacity).
  • You must be able to safely get a lumbar puncture (spinal tap)—for example, not take blood thinners like aspirin/Plavix and have safe blood counts.
  • You must be able to safely have an MRI scan (no MRI-incompatible implants or metal fragments; pregnancy also matters).
  • You must not have any major psychiatric or brain conditions like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or severe substance abuse.
