Noninvasive vagus nerve stimulation for stubborn spinal arthritis

Who can take part

  • Be between 18 and 90 years old
  • Have axial spondyloarthritis (as defined by ASAS) and been followed for at least 1 year
  • Have active disease: BASDAI score of 4 or higher and overall pain score of 4 or higher at the start
  • Have tried usual medicines and still have symptoms despite 6+ months of optimized treatment (including at least 2 NSAIDs, plus at least two biologic/biotherapy options or stopping due to side effects or intolerance)
  • Be able and willing to attend weekly study visits and sign informed consent
  • Not have certain health or situation issues, like pregnancy/breastfeeding, prior vagus nerve stimulation, or certain heart or ear conditions
