Tracking symptoms in degenerative neck spine narrowing

Cervical Spinal StenosisCervical Myelopathy

Treatments studied

Part of Bones, joints & muscles, Brain & nervous system clinical trials.

This study follows adults with degenerative narrowing in the neck spine to see how symptoms and function change over time. It may help doctors better understand which patients improve or worsen, and why.

Who can take part

  • You are over 18 years old.
  • Your neck spine narrowing (stenosis) was seen on MRI and is grade 2 or 3.
  • Your symptoms are coming from the degenerative changes in your neck (with or without myelopathy, meaning possible nerve/spinal cord effects).
  • Your narrowing is not from injury or a tumor.
  • You have not had prior decompression surgery, and you do not have other prior spine/arm/leg surgery that caused nerve or movement problems.
  • You can have MRI safely, and you can consent to the study (and you are able to complete any nerve testing they use, like motor evoked potentials).

Study for a cervical spine condition database

This trial builds a “repository,” or database, of people with a neck-spine condition. It aims to better understand degenerative problems in the neck that may or may not be causing spinal cord symptoms, which could help future research and care.

NCT06486038Recruiting
Spinal cord MRI for better neck surgery outcomes

This study uses an MRI of the spinal cord to better understand damage from a narrowed neck canal. It helps doctors improve outcomes for people who are about to have neck surgery.

NCT05183971Recruiting
Testing balance changes in older people with neck spinal cord wear

This trial studies how changes in balance and body sensing (proprioception) show up in people with age-related neck spinal cord problems. It may help researchers understand symptoms and how best to evaluate or manage degenerative cervical myelopathy.

Open-door neck surgery plan for cervical spinal narrowing

This study looks at a more tailored and standardized surgical approach for people with neck spinal narrowing and spinal cord symptoms. It may help doctors compare and improve how well surgery works for different patients.

NCT07641699Not yet recruiting
Registry study of degenerative cervical spine compression

This study tracks people with wear-and-tear damage in the neck spine that pinches the spinal cord. Researchers will collect medical information and imaging over time to understand how this condition develops and affects people.

Neck pain study comparing treatments by spinal narrowing

This study looks at how different levels of spinal narrowing affect pain, movement, and quality of life in people with long-term neck pain. It may help doctors understand the best ways to treat neck pain based on MRI findings.
