Who can take part
- You’re over 18 and can sign consent and follow study visits and tests
- You have beta thalassemia intermedia or related types (non-transfusion dependent thalassemia or HbE/other mutation, or sickle cell disease)
- Your recent hemoglobin levels average between 6.0 and 10.0 g/dL over the last 6 months
- If you can get pregnant: you have a negative pregnancy test and agree to use reliable contraception
- You have not had a red blood cell transfusion in the last 2 months
- You are not on a regular/chronic transfusion program
