Who can take part

  • You must be over 18 and able to give informed consent.
  • Have either a clinically needed heart MRI scan, or be a healthy volunteer (no major heart or lung problems).
  • No MRI-incompatible implants or devices (for example, pacemakers/defibrillators or certain implanted materials).
  • Avoid caffeine for 12 hours before the scan (including coffee, cocoa, and chocolate).
  • Avoid nicotine regularly—no regular nicotine use in the last 6 months.
  • If you’re a patient, avoid vasoactive “heart/blood vessel” medications (example: nitro) for 12 hours before the scan.
