Brain and hearing testing after cochlear implants in children

Who can take part

  • Your child must be in the study age range: 10–24 months or 3–7 years old
  • For the deaf group: congenital (from birth) severe-to-profound hearing loss, and a cochlear implant is planned (for the younger group) or already done before age 2 (for the older group)
  • For the comparison group: your child has normal hearing in both ears
  • You must have French social health insurance coverage, and a parent/guardian must give consent
  • Your child should not have major brain/neurologic conditions, other nerve/motor problems, or medicines that affect alertness
  • Your family situation should not involve certain legal protection for both parents, and the child should not be raised in a bilingual home by the family (familial bilingualism)
