Test using an app to map eye vision blind spots

This trial tests how well an EyeCTester smartphone app can measure vision blind spots and distorted vision compared with standard eye tests. If you qualify, you’ll do short near-vision and “Amsler grid” style tasks in the clinic to help confirm the app is accurate.

Who can take part

  • Be age 18+ (or 22+ for the “Group 7” part of the study).
  • Have had a standard eye nerve/vision test (ICNVT) within the last 6 months.
  • In the study eye, have at least one specific blind-spot area (scotoma/field-cut) or distortion/doubling area (metamorphopsia/doubling) with clear boundaries.
  • Be able to do both near Amsler-grid tasks—paper and smartphone—and score at least 80% after brief in-clinic training.
  • Have near vision clarity no worse than 20/80 at 16 inches and be able to look directly at a small 2.5 mm target.
  • No dilated pupils on the day of testing, and your eye condition should be stable (not changing) and not painful.
