Who can take part
- You have a confirmed diagnosis of rectal adenocarcinoma (rectal cancer type) on biopsy
- Your cancer is stage II (cT3, cN0) or stage III (cT1-3, cN1-3) based on an MRI
- Your scans show no spread to other organs (no metastases)
- Your rectal tumor can be treated with surgery (it is considered resectable)
- Your body can handle treatment: energy level is decent (KPS ≥70 or ECOG 0–2) and blood counts are high enough (neutrophils, hemoglobin, platelets)
- Your liver tests are not too elevated, and if you can become pregnant you have a negative pregnancy test
