Fecal treatment to clear gut bacteria resistant to antibiotics

This study tests a stool-based treatment (fecal microbiota treatment) to help remove “carbapenem-resistant” bacteria living in the gut. If you carry these bacteria without being sick, the goal is to reduce or stop that colonization.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • A rectal swab test shows you currently carry carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE)
  • You can legally give informed consent
  • You do not have a new stomach or gut infection other than possible C. difficile
  • You do not have certain ongoing gut conditions (like celiac, inflammatory bowel disease, or IBS)
