Sildenafil for early lung blood-pressure problems in scleroderma

SclerodermaMildly Elevated Pulmonary Pressures

Treatments studied

Part of Skin clinical trials.

This trial tests whether sildenafil can improve early “high pressure in the lung blood vessels” in people with scleroderma. It may help slow worsening breathing and lung blood-vessel disease before it becomes severe.

Who can take part

  • You have scleroderma confirmed by specific 2013 classification criteria
  • Recent lung-heart measurements show mean lung artery pressure 21–24 (with low left-sided heart filling pressure)
  • Your breathing tests are not too reduced (FEV1/FVC above 50%) and lung volumes are mostly preserved or only mildly affected
  • Your scan does not show long-term blocked lung blood vessels (chronic thromboembolism)
  • You can safely do a 6-minute walk test
  • You are able to sign consent and are 18 or older

PET scan study in pulmonary hypertension related to scleroderma

This early study uses a PET scan (a type of imaging test) to better understand lung blood-vessel disease in people who have pulmonary hypertension related to scleroderma. It may help researchers find how imaging signals relate to disease and risk.
