Sildenafil by mouth to improve breathing in COPD

Who can take part

  • You either have COPD or you do not—this study includes both groups
  • If you have COPD: your lung test shows COPD (low FEV1/FVC after inhaler) and your FEV1 is above 30% of predicted
  • If you do not have COPD: your lung test looks normal (FEV1/FVC above the cutoff) and your FEV1 is above 80% of predicted
  • You must be able to safely do exercise testing, with no major orthopedic limits or other reasons you can’t be tested
  • You must not have certain heart conditions that could interfere with exercise testing
  • You must not be pregnant or breastfeeding, and you (if able to become pregnant) must use reliable birth control during the study
