Testing new brain-stimulation patterns for Parkinson’s with DBS

This study tests whether different deep brain stimulation settings can improve symptoms in people with Parkinson’s who already have an implanted DBS system in the subthalamic nucleus (STN). To join, you must already have the specific Medtronic device and show good brain signal and symptom response after surgery.

Who can take part

  • You have Parkinson’s disease, and your doctor already recommended STN DBS using normal medical criteria
  • You already have bilateral STN DBS with a Medtronic Percept PC implant (not just any DBS system)
  • Your DBS settings and Parkinson’s medicines have been stable for at least 3 months after your implant
  • Your device can detect a strong brain “beta” signal during a survey (at least 0.7 µV/rtHz)
  • Your stimulation works well: you improve by at least 30% on the UPDRS III test when stim is on (compared with stim off), at least 3 months after surgery
