Testing a brain-controlled hand device after a stroke

This study tests whether a “closed-loop” neuroprosthesis (a hand-control device that responds to your movement) can improve hand grasping after a stroke. It may help people who cannot open or grab objects on their own, and who can safely participate during a short hospital stay.

Who can take part

  • You had a stroke affecting one side of an arm, shown on a CT or MRI, and it was more than 1 month ago
  • You cannot voluntarily open your hand (2–5 fingers) to grasp an empty glass, but you can still hold objects placed in your hand
  • You can sit in a chair for at least 1.5 hours during testing
  • You can join follow-up for 5 days while you’re hospitalized as part of routine care
  • You are 18+ and can sign written consent, and you’re covered by French health insurance
  • You must not have nerve or muscle/tendon problems that stop your hand from passively opening enough to do the tasks
