Safety and benefit of injecting fibroblast cells in leg amputees’ skin

This Phase 2 study tests whether injecting a patient’s own (autologous) fibroblast cells into the end of a transtibial (below-knee) amputation is safe and may improve outcomes. You may qualify if you have a certain type of prosthesis timing and healthy skin on the stump, and you can follow frequent visit and wound-care instructions.

Who can take part

  • Be 18 to 75 years old
  • Have a transtibial (below-knee) amputation
  • Use your prosthesis near the limb recently (within 3 months) or have had a prosthesis “osteointegration” for at least 1 month
  • Have healthy skin on the end of the amputation site and no significant, active skin problems or non-healing wounds
  • Not have certain wound problems (for example, no large ulcers, no ulcers that can’t tolerate a small safety margin, and no deep tissue erosion)
