Who can take part
- Be 45 years or older
- Be scheduled for major non-heart surgery expected to last at least 2 hours
- Get general anesthesia or spinal/epidural anesthesia (or both)
- Plan to stay in the hospital overnight, possibly in the ICU
- Have a higher-risk health factor (like diabetes, prior heart/leg circulation issues, stroke/TIA, smoking history, BMI 35+ , kidney issues, or certain recent blood test results)
- Have close blood pressure monitoring during surgery using an arterial line (a catheter in an artery)
