Who can take part
- You can give informed consent and are age 18–55
- Your schizophrenia symptoms are still severe despite taking antipsychotic medicines at therapeutic doses
- Your current antipsychotic dose must be stable for over 1 month and stay the same during the study
- You are not in another randomized treatment study
- You are not pregnant, and you can’t be taking acetazolamide already or have had an allergic reaction to it
- You don’t have certain health conditions that make acetazolamide unsafe (like certain kidney or adrenal problems, or specific eye problems)
