Who can take part

  • Be 18 years or older and planning an elective first-time hip or knee replacement
  • Your surgery is for osteoarthritis (wear-and-tear arthritis)
  • You can and are willing to complete follow-up visits for 1 year after surgery
  • You are not taking medicines that weaken your immune system
  • You do not have a vancomycin allergy or past problems from vancomycin (like kidney or ear damage)
