Who can take part

  • Be age 18 or older with AML that is in first remission (either complete remission or remission with incomplete blood recovery).
  • You are not a good candidate for an immediate allogeneic stem cell transplant (a transplant using donated cells).
  • You must have received chemotherapy to get into remission (either intensive chemotherapy, or lower-intensity treatments for multiple cycles, depending on the group).
  • You must have some space in key lab and organ function numbers: bilirubin ≤ 1.5 times normal, creatinine ≤ 2.5 times normal, ANC > 0.5, and platelets ≥ 50.
  • You should be well enough to do daily activities: ECOG performance status 0 to 3.
  • If you can become pregnant or have a partner who can, you must agree to reliable birth control (or abstinence) during the study and for 30 days after stopping.
