Who can take part

  • You are 14 years old or older.
  • You have newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML), but not a subtype called acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL).
  • You achieved remission or complete response with incomplete blood count recovery (CRi) after initial treatment and at least 2 cycles of consolidation (including at least 1 cycle with medium or high dose cytarabine or the venetoclax-azacitidine regimen).
  • You have not had an allogeneic stem cell transplant, and are not scheduled for one in the next 6 months (or 1 month if MRD positive).
  • You do not have serious heart, lung, kidney, liver, or other medical conditions, uncontrolled infections, HIV, active cancer in the brain/spinal cord, or recent blood clots.

This trial tests whether it is safe to stop taking a type of chemotherapy (azacitidine or decitabine) combined with venetoclax if you have acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and have achieved a remission with no trace of leukemia cells. If you have been on this treatment for less than a year and are not eligible for a stem cell transplant, you may be able to stop therapy and be monitored closely.
