Who can take part

  • You must be age 18 or older and a resident/native of Tanzania.
  • You must receive care at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) Upanga or MNH Mloganzila.
  • You must be able to swallow liquid safely (Ogilvie’s score less than 3).
  • You must be able to join a 20-minute interview, or have a close relative who can do it for you.
  • You must agree to be contacted by phone or in person 7–10 days after the sponge test.
  • You must be willing and able to follow study instructions and sign informed consent (or have a legal representative sign).
