Cannabidiol to reduce inflammation in chronic low back pain

This Phase 2 study tests cannabidiol (CBD) to calm inflammation in the brain that may be linked to chronic low back pain. If you qualify, you’ll take study CBD and undergo brain imaging to see whether inflammation changes.

Who can take part

  • You’re between 18 and 75 years old.
  • You can read, write, and sign consent forms in English.
  • You’ve had chronic low back pain for at least 6 months and it’s present on at least half your days, with average worst daily pain ≥ 4/10.
  • Your pain treatment has been stable for the past 4 weeks (no major changes).
  • You likely have the right genetic marker for the study (TSPO rs6971 Ala147Thr) linked to specific PET imaging results.
  • You can safely do PET and fMRI scans (for example, no pacemaker/metal/clips that block scans, and you can stay still in the scanner).
