Back pain trial using your own stem cells in discs

Who can take part

  • You have chronic low back pain for at least 6 months despite usual care (like physical therapy and common pain medicines).
  • Your MRI shows moderate disc disease in up to 3 levels, and the disc ring is still intact.
  • Your average pain is more than 40 out of 100 on a pain scale (VAS) at the start of screening.
  • You must stop certain pain medicines briefly before screening (NSAIDs for 2 days; painkillers for 24 hours).
  • You must be able to have MRI and tolerate local numbing medicine; you also cannot have certain back conditions (like disc herniation with sciatica).
  • If you could become pregnant, you need a negative pregnancy test and must use reliable birth control during treatment and for 24 months after the stem cell injection stops; breastfeeding must be stopped during treatment.
