Who can take part
- Be 18 years or older
- Have autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) that is newly diagnosed or has relapsed
- Have certain blood test results: hemoglobin below 12 g/dL and low haptoglobin, with a positive direct Coombs test
- Be able to consent and have an expected life expectancy of more than 6 months
- Not have a current or recent symptomatic blood clot (VTE), and not be on full-dose “treatment” blood thinners for clot/atrial fibrillation
- Not have active bleeding, a high bleeding risk condition, or major bleeding problems; also avoid apixaban if you have severe kidney or liver issues or low platelets
