Propionic acid supplement to improve blood vessel function
Part of Heart & circulation clinical trials.
This trial studies whether taking propionic acid can improve how well your blood vessels work. It is aimed at people with known coronary artery disease, and may help measure changes in “endothelial function” (a marker of healthy blood vessel lining).
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You have known coronary artery disease (for example: prior heart attack, a heart scan showing major blockage, or past testing showing reduced blood flow).
- Your heart pumping strength is not reduced: your left-ventricle ejection fraction is 45% or higher within the last year.
- Your blood pressure is controlled: it must be 170/100 or less at the screening visit.
- You have not had a heart attack or unstable angina in the past month, based on history, ECG, and blood tests.
- In the last 4 weeks, you have not taken probiotics, prebiotics, or supplements with short-chain fatty acids (like propionate).
- You have not had antibiotics in the last 12 weeks and have no recent dose changes to certain heart medicines or cholesterol medicines (within 6 weeks).

This study tests a treatment aimed at increasing “rest-and-digest” nerve activity to improve how blood vessels work, especially in people with vascular oxidative stress. It is designed for African American adults and looks at whether the intervention can improve blood vessel-related health markers.
This study tests if a probiotic supplement can help your body turn nitrates from food into a substance that may improve blood flow. Healthy adults who are comfortable with blood and saliva samples can take part.
This trial tests if certain strategies can reduce damage to blood vessels when blood flow is restored after being blocked. It seeks sedentary adults who have not exercised regularly and are not on heart medications.
This trial studies whether a lower-salt plan can improve how your blood vessels work. It’s meant for adults with higher blood pressure who may be at risk for heart and blood vessel problems.
This study tests whether adding a natriuretic peptide medicine improves heart health and metabolism in Black adults. It may help with blood pressure and related health markers, but you must meet specific health and safety criteria.
This study tests if TB-500 can improve blood markers of cardiovascular health in people with stable artery disease. It is an early-phase trial to see if the drug is safe and shows promise.
