Who can take part

  • You are a veteran getting care through the VA.
  • You have heart failure with preserved pumping function (ejection fraction above 50%).
  • Your symptoms are mild, moderate, or you have no limits from heart failure (NYHA class I, II, or III).
  • Either your BNP is 150 or higher (or NT-proBNP 600 or higher), or your BNP is 100+/NT-proBNP 400+ and you were in the hospital for heart failure in the past year.
  • You must not be taking statins, nitrates, PDE-5 inhibitors (like Viagra), or high-dose antioxidants.
  • You are not pregnant and do not have active liver disease.
