Who can take part

  • You are 18 to 85 years old
  • You had an ischemic or bleeding stroke within the last 24 hours to 3 weeks
  • Before this stroke, you were functioning fairly well (modified Rankin Score 2 or less)
  • You can do the study activities and tests, including swallowing evaluation results showing it’s safe to take the medicine
  • You have a certain stroke severity range on testing (NIH Stroke Scale between 3 and 15)
  • Your kidneys work well enough (creatinine clearance at least 60 mL/min)
