Who can take part

  • You have had lower back pain for at least 3 months
  • Your back pain is believed to be from wear-and-tear disc disease or a specific slippage condition
  • You are 18 or older, can read and understand the study information, and sign consent
  • You plan to have lumbar fusion surgery involving up to 2 spinal levels
  • You have no prior surgery on your lumbar (lower) spine
  • You can lie still on your back during the scan recordings and have no medical condition that makes this unsafe
