Who can take part

  • You’re age 18 or older and can sign consent for the study
  • You have a confirmed lumbar (lower back) disc herniation causing nerve pain (radiculopathy) and are scheduled for surgery
  • You are covered by social security health insurance
  • If you can become pregnant: you must use reliable birth control and have a negative pregnancy test at the start
  • You have never had prior lumbar spine surgery and this is not a different type of herniation (not non-lumbar)
