Testing muscle fatigue during exercise in COPD and heart failure

This study looks at how tired your muscles get during a controlled cycling exercise test in people who have COPD, and—if applicable—heart failure at the same time. It may help researchers understand exercise limits and how to better support you with these conditions.

Who can take part

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have COPD with airflow blockage confirmed by breathing test results
  • If you also have heart failure (COPD-HF overlap), your heart pumping function is reduced (left ejection fraction under 50%)
  • If you have heart failure, your symptoms are mild to moderate (NYHA class I to III)
  • Be stable for COPD and heart failure, with no flare-up in the last 3 months that required medication changes
  • Be able and willing to do a cycling exercise test and give written consent
