Repairing a lung airspace after failed bronchoscopic treatment

This study looks at a procedure to “complete” a lung fissure in people whose prior bronchoscopic lung volume reduction did not work as well as hoped. It may help reduce persistent shortness of breath, but eligibility depends on your lung test results and overall heart/lung safety.

Who can take part

  • Be between 40 and 75 years old.
  • Be on a stable low dose of prednisone (less than 10 mg per day) or an equivalent dose.
  • Do not smoke for at least 4 months before screening and agree not to smoke during the study.
  • Have had the pneumococcal (“pneumonia”) vaccine and the flu vaccine.
  • After your prior bronchoscopic lung volume reduction, your reduced lung volume must be under 350 ml and your shortness of breath must still be at least moderate (mMRC score 2 or higher).
  • You must still have the endobronchial valves in place and be able to return for all follow-up visits and tests.
