Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have a persistent air leak (air escaping from your lung for more than a few days).
  • The air leak may be from surgery, injury, or lung disease.
  • You are not able to have surgery to fix the leak, or you have chosen not to have surgery.
  • You haven't taken part in other experimental treatments for your air leak.
  • You are healthy enough to have a bronchoscopy (a tube test through your mouth or nose into your lungs).

This study compares two treatments for a stubborn air leak that continues more than 5 days after lung surgery. One treatment uses a concentrated sugar solution, the other uses your own blood to patch the leak. The goal is to see which works better to stop the leak and help you heal.
