Who can take part

  • You are older than 18 years.
  • Your lung cancer is non-small cell lung cancer confirmed by biopsy.
  • After 4–6 cycles of standard chemotherapy or drug treatment, your cancer has not progressed.
  • Your cancer is limited to 1–5 metastatic sites (spread), not counting the original lung tumor and nearby lymph nodes; you should not have more than 3 spots in one organ.
  • You must have scans that show the limited metastatic spots are treatable with a high-dose, focused radiation plan (or you have already treated some spots, with no more than 5 total by study entry).

Maintenance therapy after radiation for limited spread kidney cancer

This trial tests whether giving a maintenance medication (pembrolizumab) after targeted radiation helps keep kidney cancer that has spread to a few spots (5 or fewer) from growing. You would receive radiation to each spot and then be randomly assigned to receive either the medication or a placebo (inactive substance) for up to about 2 years.
