Bed-cycle exercise study to test muscle oxygen during ICU care

Who can take part

  • You are an adult in the ICU and able to answer a short 5-question screen (score 5/5)
  • You have been on a breathing machine (ventilator) for more than 48 hours during this ICU stay
  • Your care team expects you to stay in the ICU for at least another 48 hours after enrollment
  • You can do active bed cycling for over 10 minutes without needing it stopped for inability
  • You do not have major limits that prevent safe leg/pelvis/back cycling (like severe injury or fitting problems)
  • Your breathing and circulation numbers must be safe for exercise (oxygen levels, blood pressure, heart rate)
