Blood thinner use during stroke to predict outcomes

This study looks at how people doing well on certain blood thinners do when they have a stroke or bleeding while taking them. It will measure medication levels in your blood to understand stroke severity and recovery in the short and long term.

Who can take part

  • You have atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm).
  • You are currently taking one of these blood thinners: dabigatran, rivaroxaban, apixaban, or edoxaban.
  • You recently had an ischemic stroke, a transient ischemic attack (“mini-stroke”), or an intracranial bleed while on that blood thinner.
  • You agree to have blood drawn to measure the blood thinner level in your body.
  • You are willing to sign informed consent to join the study.
