Who can take part

  • Be age 18 to 70 years old
  • Have been diagnosed with silicosis or coal worker’s pneumoconiosis from occupational exposure
  • Have lung test results showing moderate lung restriction: FVC between 40% and 79% predicted, and DLCO between 30% and 79% predicted
  • Your CT lung scan (HRCT) must show widespread (diffuse) scarring-type interstitial lung changes
  • Be able to understand the study and sign informed consent
  • In the last 4 weeks, you should not have had infections like pneumonia or other serious lung infections
