This Phase 2 study tests whether botulinum toxin (Botox) injections can reduce pain from long-lasting degenerative rotator cuff problems. You may be eligible if you have shoulder pain for over a month and ultrasound evidence of specific tendon irritation.

Who can take part

  • Be over 40 years old
  • Have shoulder pain for more than 1 month, with at least moderate pain and limited shoulder function
  • Have had pain medicine in a stable way for at least 30 days before joining
  • Have a recent shoulder ultrasound (within 30 days) showing supraspinatus tendon irritation, with or without a tear
  • Be able to consent, come to all visits, and fill out the weekly pain/medication notebook
  • If you can become pregnant: use reliable contraception starting 1 month before and continuing 1 month after, and have a negative urine pregnancy test
