Who can take part
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be an ICU patient who is part of one of the study groups (sepsis, trauma, cardiac surgery, abdominal vascular surgery)
- For sepsis group: meet “Sepsis-3” criteria at the time sepsis is diagnosed
- For sepsis group: stay in the ICU for about 14 days (about 7 days either way) after sepsis diagnosis
- Be able to consent, or have a legally authorized representative who can
- For sepsis group: be getting adequate food either by mouth or through a feeding tube
