Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You must have had a blunt injury (like from a car crash) that is severe, with a broken long bone or pelvis that needs surgery.
  • You must have had signs of shock after injury, such as low blood pressure or needing a blood transfusion.
  • You cannot be a prisoner, pregnant, or have had a bone marrow transplant.
  • You cannot be on long-term steroids or immunosuppressive medications.
  • You cannot have end-stage kidney disease or a pre-existing blood disorder.
