Who can take part
- You have persistent atrial fibrillation and are being referred to Stanford for ablation or Maze surgery
- Your atrial fibrillation has either lasted more than 7 days or needed cardioversion to stop it
- You have tried at least one anti-arrhythmia medicine and it did not work or you could not tolerate it
- Your pre-procedure heart ultrasound (transesophageal echo) does not show a clot in the heart
- You do not have active blocked heart arteries (coronary ischemia) or worsening (decompensated) heart failure
